Does my business need and FFC license?

Most commercial radios fall under FCC part 90 and require licensing. However, some lower powered radios such as MURS and FRS radios can be used without a license. Click Here to shop radios that do not require a license.

Which license package is right for my business?

  • Itinerant license package: Perfect for businesses that operate in multiple locations, the Itinerant license package provides your company with five shared UHF or VHF frequencies. The package includes licensing across two states (additional states and nationwide licensing are available for an additional fee). Itinerant frequencies are shared meaning the licensee is not guaranteed exclusive use of the frequencies. As such interference by other users is possible especially in dense urban areas however, Rangeland Communications can program your radios in a manner designed to minimize interference. Maximum Power is 5 watts portables, 35 watts for mobiles. Repeaters can not be licensed on Itinerant frequencies. License valid for 10 years.

  • Exclusive low power license package: For the small business, restaurant, warehouse, car lot, sales yard or others who need a pair of low power VHF or UHF channels to communicate between employees. Licensed and coordinated for exclusive use at a fixed location with a limited area of operation, i.e. 5 miles. Maximum Power 20 watts (ERP) Base/repeater, 6 watts (ERP) Mobile, 2 watts (ERP) Portables. Maximum base/repeater height 75 feet above ground. Two frequencies included additional frequencies available for a fee. License valid for 10 years.

  • Exclusive low power license package: FIXED AREA HIGH POWER CHANNELS for the business who needs a pair of high power UHF or VHF channels to communicate over larger areas. Licensed and coordinated at a fixed location with an area of operation not to exceed 20 miles for UHF (450-470 MHz) and 25 miles for VHF (151-160 MHz). Up to 200 watts (ERP) permitted for base/repeaters. Two frequencies included additional frequencies available for a fee. License valid for 10 years.
